Original Media Headquarters

New York, NY

Original Media is an independent production company specializing in unique films and series for television. Given the cutting edge nature of their work, their headquarters embraces urban authenticity and recalls 1980’s New York City through references to New Urbanist typology and the embellished surfaces of street art. The layout of the space takes inspiration from Manhattan’s grid, which organizes the city into streets and avenues, with zones for public use among and in between more private spaces. The power and technology infrastructure that makes this state of the art facility possible was left exposed, both for ease of access and as a reminder of its functional roots. This fifteen thousand square foot floor has several zones of densely packed “neighborhoods” organized according to use. Benched work areas and windowed editing rooms allow for interaction and group work among employees. These dense work areas are traversed by common gathering spaces left un-programmed to allow for working, impromptu meeting, large gatherings or just taking a break. To achieve this, the most desirable windowed walls were not given over to private offices, but rather, were reserved for common use by all.
